About The Role

Role: Building Control Surveyor
Location: Chorley and South Ribble
Contract: Full time (36.25 hours per week) / Permanent
Salary: £33,366 - £36,124

Looking for a varied role in Building Control ranging from working towns like Leyland, Chorley and Bamber Bridge to rural countryside areas? We’re seeking an experienced Building Control professional to join our team working across Chorley Council and South Ribble Borough Council – you’ll carry out plan checking, site inspections, dangerous structures, demolitions and enforcement. 

The successful candidate will be validated to at least class 2F (as defined by the Buliding Safety Regulator). Please identify your qualifications within your application.
 

What you’ll be getting up to

  • Carrying out site inspections on a range of buildings, ensuring that Building Regulations are complied with and that building work is being carried out in accordance with the approved plans.
  • Checking submitted applications for compliance with the requirements of the Building Regulations and associated legislation
  • Providing building control advice to internal and external customers including applicants, agents or other professionals
  • Carrying out enforcement action if work on site is in breach of the requirements
  • Liaising with the Fire & Rescue service to ensure the safety of buildings including high-risk non-domestic buildings and dangerous structures
  • Ensuring that demolition works are carried out in accordance with safe working practices and risk assessments
  • Supporting building control trainees, sharing knowledge and providing advice and training.

Who we’re looking for

  • Experience of carrying out the full range of building control functions on both domestic and commercial buildings
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information or difficult messages to a range of audiences  
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to build rapport and negotiate with customers to reach a desired outcome  
  • Problem solving skills with the ability to identify and evaluate solutions    
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to identify issues and take action to resolve them    
  • Knowledge of the technical and legal aspects of Building Regulations  
  • Ability to travel across the boroughs for site visits and meetings with clients
