Ready to start your new career in IT? If you’re someone with a keen interest for technology and are looking to study towards a great qualification (whilst learning a whole lot more on the job). Then this is the role for you!

You’ll be supported by a team of highly talented IT professionals along your journey with us. You’ll become a qualified IT professional, with real-world experience in our growing ICT team, as well as through your studies at Wigan & Leigh College

What you’ll be getting up to
  • Over the course of the 2 year apprenticeship, you’ll develop your ICT skills to fully support the ICT function across the Councils.
  • You’ll be on the front-line of our ICT service, working closely with customers across the Councils and supporting them with a wide range of queries.
  • As a part of your apprenticeship, you’ll also be studying towards a Digital Support Technician or Digital Application Technician qualification at Wigan & Leigh College.
  • You’ll develop the skills to identifyanalyse and resolve issues. When needed, you’ll have the ability to escalate to your team.
Who we’re looking for
  • We’re looking for determined learners. Not only will you be learning whilst on the job, but you’ll also be topping up your knowledge at college.
  • You’ll be passionate about all things tech. We’re constantly evolving and developing the way we work, this means looking at how we can improve our services through the Digital Services we provide.
  • We’re customer-focused (including you!). Providing great IT services doesn’t mean sat behind a screen all day. Our service extends to every corner of the business. You’ll be out and about engaging with internal customers, and helping them with queries.
  • You’ll be a team player. Not only will you work closely with your immediate team, but also the wider ICT team (and Council!).
Other requirements
  • Successful applicants will be subject to a basic DBS check (applied and paid for by the Council).
Our Benefits
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (and Christmas shutdown)
  • Local Government pension
  • Healthcare Cash Plan for cash back on health treatments
  • Cashback website access for savings on brands you love
  • Volunteering days
  • Free parking
Many of our colleagues work flexibly for us. We’re always open to conversations around different working arrangements. If you’re interested in part-time, compressed hours or any other working arrangement, please get in touch with us through the “Contact Us” form on our careers website.

About Us

Chorley Council is dedicated to providing first-class services and promoting the well-being of the local community. Our staff are our greatest resource, at the heart of everything we do, and are crucial to the delivery of excellent services for our residents. At Chorley Council, we’re always striving to make our borough the best to live, work and visit.

Working Together

We share a number of our services with South Ribble Borough Council. This allows for improved resilience across both councils and provides numerous benefits to our operations. Whilst some staff and back-end processes are shared between the Councils, both Councils still retain sovereignty and have separate strategies and corporate plans.
