About The Role

Role: Waste HGV Driver
Location: Moss Side Depot, Leyland
ContractFull time (36.25 hours per week) / Permanent
Salary: £31,537 - £33,699

We’re looking for four skilled and reliable Waste HGV Driver to join our team at Moss Side Depot. In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering essential waste collection services across the borough, ensuring our streets and communities remain clean and safe.
What you’ll be getting up to
  • Collecting and loading a variety of waste and recycling streams from domestic and commercial properties, streets, and open spaces across the borough
  • Driving and operating council vehicles, including Class C HGVs, safely and efficiently, while meeting all legal and operational requirements
  • Completing daily vehicle safety checks, cleaning, and reporting defects in line with council procedures
  • Using digital systems to record and report exceptions, ensuring accurate information flow to colleagues and residents
  • Responding to minor emergencies such as flooding, obstructions, and damaged street furniture, and supporting council events when required
  • Maintaining high standards of health and safety for yourself, colleagues, and the public, while delivering excellent customer service
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for a reliable, safety-conscious individual who can deliver excellent customer service while operating in a fast-paced environment. You’ll need to be adaptable, work well as part of a team, and take pride in maintaining high standards:
Qualifications
  •  Full UK driving licence with Category C entitlement (or willingness to work towards this)
  • Current Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence), minimum of 2 years for new starters
Experience & Skills
  •  Previous experience in waste and recycling collection services, including driving refuse collection vehicles and rear-steer HGVs
  • Strong understanding of health and safety procedures and correct use of PPE
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy loads, walk long distances, and work outdoors in all weather
  • Confident working under pressure with minimal supervision, while maintaining accuracy and safety
  • Excellent communication skills for dealing with colleagues and the public professionally
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including occasional out-of-hours work to meet service needs
