About The Role

Location:  Bengal Street, Chorley
ContractFull time (36.25 hours per week) / Fixed Term Contract (12 months)

We’re looking for a Streetscene Operative (Waste) to join our Chorley based Streetscene and Waste team. In this role, you’ll be working all around Chorley and undertaking a broad range of duties to deliver the Councils Streetscene & Waste agenda, doing so in an effective, efficient and safe manner.

What you’ll be getting up to

  • In the varied role, you’ll be getting involved in a variety of tasks which will include wheeled bin deliveries and removals, bin repairs, handling wastes, assisting and advising residents with their waste management, and resolving domestic waste and recycling problems.
  • Removing waste accumulations, litter and abandoned wheeled bins.
  • Monitoring bin stock levels and ensuring bin storage areas are kept clean and tidy.
  • Occasionally get involved with street cleansing tasks such as removal of fly tipping.
  • Supporting reuse & recycling projects and helping to promote recycling services.
  • Always maintaining health and safety protocols whilst working.
  • Operate simple tools and vehicles.
  • Responding to minor emergencies such as flooding, highway spillages, obstructions

Who we’re looking for

  • Motivated and able to work under own initiative to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Someone who takes pride in their work.
  • Able to work alone or in a team.
  • Ability to communicate with people and with a desire to help people.
  • Understanding of waste minimisation and recycling.
Other requirements
  • This role requires you to regularly use a vehicle therefore you must possess a valid UK Driving Licence.
