About The Role

Role: Head of Environmental Health & Public Protection 
Location: Chorley and South Ribble
ContractFull time (36.25 hours per week) / Permanent
Salary: £72,441

We’re looking for a strategic and experienced leader to take on the role of Head of Public Protection. As Head of Public Protection, you’ll lead high-impact services that sit at the heart of our communities - from environmental health and community safety through to climate response and prevention.
 
You’ll have real influence to drive change, strengthen partnerships and deliver innovative, preventative approaches that improve lives and protect our residents. What you’ll be getting up to
  • Providing strategic leadership across environmental health, community safety and public protection services
  • Ensuring both councils meet their statutory responsibilities relating to environmental health and crime and disorder
  • Shaping and delivering policies, procedures and service improvements to drive effective, compliant and high-quality services
  • Leading partnership work to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour and wider community safety challenges Promoting prevention and early intervention, working across services to improve public health outcomes
  • Overseeing integrated, person-centred approaches to support vulnerable residents Leading South Ribble’s response to the climate emergency, including delivery of the Climate Change Strategy and action plan
  • Managing and developing key operational services, including pest control across both councils and animal welfare in Chorley Building strong relationships to deliver joined-up, impactful outcomes across both boroughs
Who we’re looking for
  • A qualified and experienced leader with a strong background in environmental health, regulatory services or public protection
  • Proven success managing teams and services, with the ability to think strategically and deliver results across organisational boundaries
  • An inspiring leader who can set direction, motivate others and lead through change in a complex environment Confident handling complex, sensitive issues and making sound decisions under pressure
  • Skilled in building partnerships and delivering programmes with internal and external stakeholders
  • Resilient, adaptable and able to navigate ambiguity while driving continuous improvement
