About The Role

Role: Building Control Manager 
Location: Chorley and South Ribble
ContractFull time (36.25 hours per week) / Permanent
Salary: £57,775 to £58,803 plus 6% car allowance (inc. £6,000 market supplement)
Closing Date: 1 June 2025

This is a fantastic opportunity to manage the shared Building Control team for Chorley and South Ribble Councils. It is a particularly exciting time with a number of major developments taking place at the moment as well as the opportunity to work on large scale Council backed schemes such as the two levelling up funded developments shortly taking place in Chorley Town Centre and other Council schemes across South Ribble.  

Whether you are seeking a new challenge or looking to make the next step in your career, we are seeking a talented Building Control Manager to lead a team of registered Building Inspectors, and dedicated technical support staff to manage a diverse Building Control service. You must have demonstrable experience in applying Building Regulations across all building types, including complex developments. A detailed understanding of current and emerging legislation is essential. Ideally, you will be Class 2F registered, degree qualified, and a full member of a professional body (e.g., RICS, CABE). You will be able to prioritise and manage a varied workload, have strong communication skills, and a problem-solving mindset. You should demonstrate a commitment to excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement, taking responsibility for delivering high-quality outcomes and adapting to challenges effectively.

The post offers hybrid working arrangements from day one, flexible working hours and generous annual leave entitlements.

What you’ll be getting up to
  • Leading the strategic and operational management of the building control functions for Chorley and South Ribble councils, ensuring a high performing function which meets the needs of both authorities.
  • Promoting the building control service across Chorley and South Ribble, engaging with commercial clients and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • To lead the delivery of wide-ranging service improvement and transformation initiatives for the service including the implementation of new business systems, policies and processes.
  • Identifying, planning and delivering improvement initiatives or projects to support the performance of the service.
  • Providing leadership to members of the Building Control Team
Who we’re looking for
  • Experience of delivering projects or initiatives to maintain a high performing service 
  • Classification 2F and Level 4 Technical Manager
  • A degree-level building control qualification and extensive experience in building control or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of legislation and best practice relating to building control.
  • Ability to lead a team 
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent decision making skills
Other requirements
  • This role requires you to regularly use a vehicle therefore you must possess a valid UK Driving Licence and your own vehicle.
