About The Role

Role: Tree Officer
Location: Bengal Street, Chorley
Contract: Full time (36.25 hours per week) / Permanent
Salary: £31,537 - £33,699

Do you have experience in arboriculture? We're looking for a Tree Officer to join our Chorley based "Streetscene" team. If you’re ready to make a positive impact on our community and contribute to the beauty and safety of Chorley’s green spaces, we want to hear from you! 

In this role you will support the tree service for the benefit of the council and the environment. You’ll use your understanding of trees and the environment to provide advice and support on tree health, planning, safety, digital mapping, and biosecurity.

What you’ll be getting up to
  • Tree Inspections and Maintenance: Conduct cyclical inspections of trees on Council land, identify necessary remedial work, and ensure actions are completed in line with policy and safety standards.
  • Record Keeping & Digital Updates: Maintain structured records of inspections and update digital systems to track work and outcomes.
  • Public & Stakeholder Engagement: Respond to enquiries and complaints from the public, elected members, and other organisations, providing inspections and advice as needed.
  • Technical Arboricultural Advice: Offer expert guidance on issues including subsidence, hedge legislation (e.g. High Hedges Act), and Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs).
  • Emergency & Reactive Work: Attend emergency situations, assess risks, instruct urgent works, and document findings for liability purposes.
  • Planning & Legal Support: Carry out land ownership searches, support planning departments with TPO assessments, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
Who we’re looking for
  • You’ll have a recognised qualification in arboriculture.
  • You’ll have knowledge and experience of ICT systems in particular the use of mapping systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of maintaining records in relation to inspections and site visits.
  • Experience of dealing with customers on tree issues
  • A sound knowledge of legislation relating to trees including Tree Preservation Orders
Other requirements
  • This role requires you to regularly use a vehicle therefore you must possess a valid UK Driving Licence.
