Do you enjoy working outdoors and want a job where you can take real pride in what you do?

We are looking for a Streetscene Operative / Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our borough-based cleansing and grounds teams. In this role, you’ll work across the whole borough in a varied, hands-on position, helping to keep our parks, community spaces, and streets looking their very best for residents, visitors, and the wider community.

What will your role include?

  • You’ll carry out a wide range of grounds maintenance tasks, including grass cutting, strimming, edging, turfing, seeding, and general lawn care. This also includes maintaining plants through pruning, hedge cutting, mulching, caring for seasonal bedding, and planting trees and shrubs.
  • You’ll support cleansing and community care by litter picking, sweeping, raking, and clearing leaves across both hard and soft surfaces. You’ll also assist with reactive tasks and minor emergencies, such as responding to flooding or removing obstructions.
  • You’ll operate a variety of grounds maintenance tools and equipment, such as mowers and hedge trimmers, and will use council vehicles as part of your daily work (a full clean driving licence is required). You’ll ensure all vehicles, tools, and equipment are kept clean, safe, and well maintained.
  • You’ll follow scheduled tasks using digital platforms, working either independently or as part of a team to meet high service standards. You’ll always follow health and safety procedures and use the appropriate PPE to ensure a safe working environment.

About Us

At South Ribble Council, our mission is to provide a first-class service and improve the quality of life for our communities. Our staff are our greatest resource in helping us achieve this. They’re at the heart of everything we do and are crucial to the delivery of excellent services.

Working Together

We share a number of our services with Chorley Council. This allows for improved resilience across both councils and provides numerous benefits to our operations. Whilst some staff and back-end processes are shared between the Councils, both Councils still retain sovereignty and have separate strategies and corporate plans.
