Role: Workshop Technician
Location: Bengal Street depot, Chorley
ContractFull time (36.25 hours per week) / Permanent

We’re looking for a skilled technician to join our Chorley based Streetscene team. In this role, you’ll be carrying out a wide range of repairs and maintenance to our grounds maintenance equipment at the council's Bengal Street depot. Ensuring that all machinery compiles with relevant legislation and in accordance with terms of the council's operating standards at all times. You'll also be responsible for the management and development of an Apprentice in the workshop. This is a great opportunity to grow as a manager and to begin developing your leadership skills.

What you’ll be getting up to
  • Establish and maintain a scheduled programme for the inspection and maintenance of ground maintenance equipment
  • Reporting defects, damage and suspected misuse to Team Leader Ground Maintenance
  • Carrying out ad hoc inspection of equipment to ensure teams are complying with procedures
  • Carry out minor repairs to fleet vehicles
  • Carry out minor repairs to street cleansing equipment including sweepers
  • Supervise the work shop apprentice
  • Attend to machinery breakdowns on site and either carry out on site repairs or assist in recovery
  • Ensure workshop is kept clean and tidy
  • Comply with Health & Safety policies and procedures
Who we’re looking for
  • Experience in maintaining & repairing  light plant, including ride- on mowers, mini tractors, tractors etc. 
  • Knowledge and experience of risk assessing in a dynamic working environment, and of establishing, implementing, and following safe working methods.
  • Experience and knowledge in using Microsoft Office programmes (Word, Excel and Outlook) and digital systems for monitoring and recording scheduled work.
  • Willingness to work flexibly across Streetscene Services
Other requirements
  • This role requires a NVQ L3 qualified person (or equivalent experience) in repair and maintenance of horticultural/plant and equipment
  • This role requires you to regularly use a vehicle therefore you must possess a valid UK Driving Licence.
